The Latinés in Leadership Awards celebrate the contributions of Latinés across Southern New Mexico. From classrooms to boardrooms, from small businesses to the frontlines of service, honorees are recognized for the corazón, compromiso, y comunidad they bring to their work.
"These awards are a heartfelt tribute to the Latiné women and non-binary individuals whose work moves our communities forward," said Krystal Chavarria of the Covarrubias-Aprendamos Foundation. "Every past winner and honoree embodies the liderazgo that strengthens our cultura and helps shape a more just and vibrant future."
"Para nuestra comunidad, these awards are about more than recognition, they're about legacy," said Caroline Zamora of the Zamora Family Foundation.
Abel Covarrubias (Covarrubias-Aprendamos Foundation) and Caroline Zamora (Zamora Family Foundation) founded the Latinés in Leadership Awards in 2024. In 2026, the two foundations will establish an endowment at New Mexico State University, with a companion conference in the planning stages for 2027. Together, the foundations remain committed to celebrating cultura, promoting education, and honoring the contributions Latinés make to their communities.

Community members are invited to nominate a Latina or Latiné non-binary leader who resides in Doña Ana, Sierra, Luna, or Grant County. Nominations can be submitted in English, Spanish, or a mix of both, and must include:
The award category
The nominee's full name & contact information
A narrative of up to 700 words describing the nominee's experience, accomplishments, and why they deserve recognition
A clear photo or headshot of the nominee

Nominations are open across a dozen categories, including

IDENTITY
Nominees must be individuals who

EMERGING LEADER
Nominees for the Emerging Leader category must be 40 years old or younger as of November 1, 2026.
JUVENTUD CON CORAZÓN
Nominees for the Juventud con Corazón category must be 25 years old or younger as of November 1, 2026.
YOUNG LATINÉ
Nominees for the Young Latiné category must be enrolled in middle school, high school, or equivalent.
